Accelerated TMS and Theta-Burst Stimulation in Denver

Accelerated TMS at Denver TMS Therapy uses intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS), an FDA-cleared TMS protocol that delivers a full session in a few minutes. For eligible patients, several iTBS sessions can be scheduled per day so a course takes days or a couple of weeks instead of six or more.

Theta-burst in plain terms

Standard TMS delivers pulses in a steady rhythm over 20 to 40 minutes. Theta-burst delivers short bursts of pulses in a pattern modeled on the brain's own rhythms, which allows a session to be completed in roughly three to ten minutes. iTBS was FDA-cleared for major depressive disorder in 2018.

What "accelerated" means

Accelerated scheduling stacks multiple iTBS sessions in a single day with rest periods between them. It can suit people who travel to reach us, who cannot take weeks of daily appointments, or who need relief on a shorter timeline. Whether an accelerated schedule is appropriate is a clinical decision made with your psychiatrist; some patients do better with a standard daily course.

What we do not claim

Accelerated TMS is not a guarantee of faster or better results, and we do not use proprietary protocol names we are not licensed to offer. We will describe exactly which protocol and schedule you are receiving.

Getting started

The evaluation, insurance, and mapping steps are the same as for standard TMS. Ask about accelerated scheduling at your consultation.
